Shepherd’s Pie is a childhood staple for me. My grandma and mom made it all the time, and it is the ultimate comfort food.
Traditional shepherds pie is made with lamb, however we always made it with ground beef or a shredded roast.
Let’s get started!
Ingredients
Method
- Start by cooking your ground beef, cook until done and add in veggies. Let cook until veggies are soft. While the veggies are cooking prepare your mashed potatoes and make the way you like them.2. Add flour to ground beef mixture and mix well. Slowly pour in broth, stir and let simmer until thickened.3. Once beef mixture has thickened, pour into a 9×13 casserole dish. Spread mashed potatoes on top. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes, take out and pour melted butter on top, place back in the oven for 5 minutes and broil for a minute.4. Enjoy!
Notes
Skip the butter and add cheese instead! That is not a traditional way of making it but so good!Make a pan of brown gravy to put on top once out of the oven.
