Sourdough Pizza

October 8, 2024

If you’re a fan of homemade pizza and you love the tangy flavor of sourdough, you’re in for a treat. Sourdough pizza combines the best of both worlds—crispy crust, airy texture, and a rich, slightly tangy flavor that adds depth to your pizza experience. Plus, it’s a great way to use up some of your sourdough starter! In this blog post, I’ll walk you through the steps to make sourdough pizza dough, so you can create your own gourmet pizza right at home.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup starter
  • 3 1/2-4 cups flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 T olive oil

Instructions:

  • In the morning, add all of the ingredients together and mix well. I like to start with the water and start first and then I add in the oil, flour and salt. Mix well, your dough will be shaggy. Place in a bowl with a towel over top and let sit for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, stretch your dough. I like to do this at least 2 times, every 30 minutes and then shape it and let it rise in the bowl covered with a towel for 6-8 hours.
  • Preheat the oven to 500° . I use a pizza stone and like to also get that hot in the over. Once a pizza stone is hot a roll out and then shape the dough, then place onto the pizza stone. Add toppings and bake for 7-10 min.
  • It should be nice and bubbly, take it out and serve it with your favorite side salad.

Notes:

I made an amazing side salad to go with our pizza with a homemade dressing. This is a Mediterranean style salad.

1/2 tsp Red Wine Vinegar
1-2 squeezes Honey
1/2 tsp Italian herbs
1 tsp Grain mustard (just a squeeze)
Coarse Salt
Pepper
2 tsp Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup Olive oil

Blend all of the ingredients well. For the salad I do a spring mix with chopped olives, chopped banana pepper rings, chopped cucumber, long slices of Parmesan, pepper and bread crumbs. Pour the dressing on and mix and serve!
