Pumpkin Spice Syrup

August 27, 2024

As the crisp autumn air begins to settle in, nothing says “fall” quite like the warm, comforting flavors of pumpkin spice. Whether you’re a fan of lattes, pancakes, or even cocktails, a homemade pumpkin spice syrup is the perfect way to infuse that cozy autumn feeling into your favorite treats. Making your own syrup is surprisingly easy and allows you to customize the flavor to suit your taste. Plus, it makes for a thoughtful homemade gift!

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup pumpkin puree fresh or canned (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup white granulated sugar

Instructions:

In a small saucepan over medium heat, add the pumpkin puree, ground cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves, water and sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally to make sure the sugar dissolves and pumpkin puree is blended in.

Remove from heat. Pour through a fine mesh strainer and into an airtight container like a glass jar or bottle. The strainer will help remove any sediments from the pumpkin spice simple syrup, if needed.

Let cool then seal and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

How to Use Your Pumpkin Spice Syrup

  • Pumpkin Spice Latte: Add 1-2 tablespoons of the syrup to your coffee or espresso, then top with steamed milk for a homemade PSL.
  • Drizzle Over Pancakes or Waffles: Elevate your breakfast game by drizzling the syrup over pancakes, waffles, or French toast.
  • In Cocktails: Add a touch of fall to your favorite cocktails by incorporating this syrup into your drink recipes.
  • In Oatmeal: Stir a spoonful into your morning oatmeal for a cozy start to the day.
  • As a Dessert Sauce: Drizzle over vanilla ice cream, apple pie, or even a slice of pumpkin bread.
