Ingredients
- 6 lbs apples (Fuji, Gala, Honeycrisp, Red Delicious, or a mix), peeled, cored, and chopped
- 2 cups packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
- Prep the apples: Place your chopped apples into a large slow cooker.
- Add the sweetness and spice: Sprinkle in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and cloves. Give everything a good stir to coat the apples evenly.
- Slow cook to perfection: Cover and cook on LOW for 10–12 hours, stirring occasionally, until the apples are deeply brown, caramelized, and very soft.
- Blend it smooth: Use an immersion blender directly in the slow cooker (or transfer to a blender in batches) until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Add flavor and thicken (optional): Stir in the vanilla extract, then cook uncovered on LOW for another 1–2 hours if you prefer a thicker texture.
- Cool and store: Let your apple butter cool completely before transferring it to jars. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or freeze for up to 6 months.
